Heart to Heart Shanghai is a non-profit community outreach organization composed entirely of volunteers who donate their time to give support to Chinese children from extremely poor families who are undergoing heart surgery. We started in 2003 by conducting hospital play sessions one day a week in one hospital, but have grown greatly in scope. We now:
It costs at least RMB 30,000 to repair a child's heart defect at the hospitals with which we work. Many families in rural China are not fully covered by medical benefits and are unable to raise the money for the operation for their child.
Visits to our sponsored children’s rural homes and schools made us aware oftentimes no funding is available to the schools for library books. We established that RMB 20, 000 would purchase a large selection of curriculum supporting reference and library books.
